The short version
This policy covers the Pocketa mobile app for iOS and Android, published by Appcitor (“we”, “us”).
- Your financial data never leaves your device. We operate no server that receives it, so we cannot see, share or sell it.
- There is no account. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or bank credentials.
- The app shows ads served by Google AdMob. Google may collect device and usage information to deliver them. Your transactions are never part of that.
Data stored on your device
Everything you enter into Pocketa is stored locally in an encrypted database on your phone. The encryption key is held in the secure keychain provided by your operating system. This includes:
- Transactions, accounts, balances, categories and tags
- Budgets, bills, subscriptions, goals, debts and loans
- Names of people you split expenses with
- Receipt photos and other attachments you add
- Your settings, such as language, currency, theme and app lock
We have no access to any of this. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else by the app.
Data we do not collect
- No account details: no name, email address or password
- No bank or card credentials, and no connection to your bank
- No analytics or telemetry about your financial activity
- No contacts, precise location or browsing history
Receipt scanning and AI features
Receipt scanning uses the text recognition built into your phone. The image is processed on the device and is not uploaded.
Category suggestions, forecasts, spending insights and search are also computed on your device from your own data. No request is sent to an AI provider, which is why these features work offline. You can turn suggestions and insights off in Settings.
Advertising
Pocketa is free and supported by advertising from Google AdMob. The app shows a banner ad and, occasionally, a full-screen ad when you change the colour theme. Ads are limited to content rated suitable for general audiences.
To serve and measure ads, Google may collect and process information such as your device’s advertising identifier, IP address (which indicates approximate location), device model and operating system, and how you interact with ads. This information goes directly to Google. We do not receive it, and your transactions, balances, accounts and categories are never shared with Google or any advertiser.

Your advertising choices
- Where the law requires it, including in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before showing personalised ads. You can review or withdraw that consent at any time under Settings, Privacy & Ads, Ad privacy choices.
- On iOS, the app asks permission before using your device’s advertising identifier. If you decline, ads are not personalised using it.
- On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device’s Google settings.
- Declining personalisation makes ads less relevant. It does not remove them.
Device permissions
Each permission is optional and is requested only when you first use the feature that needs it:
- Camera, to scan receipts
- Photos, to attach an existing image to a transaction
- Notifications, for bill, budget and logging reminders, which are scheduled on the device
- Face ID or fingerprint, to unlock the app. This is handled by your operating system, and Pocketa never receives your biometric data.
Backups and exports
You can export your data as CSV or PDF, or create an encrypted backup file. These files are created on your device and go only where you choose to save or share them. If you store a backup with a cloud provider, that provider’s own privacy policy applies to the file.
Retention and deletion
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can erase everything at any time by resetting the app in Settings or by uninstalling it. Because we hold no copy, there is nothing for us to delete on our side and nothing we could restore for you, so keep a backup of anything you want to preserve.
Children
Pocketa is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us at support@pocketa.app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, for example under the GDPR or the CCPA. Because your Pocketa data exists only on your device, you exercise most of these rights directly in the app. For data processed by Google for advertising, use the choices described above or Google’s own privacy controls. We do not sell personal information.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
